Second Stakeholder Meeting on the Development of the National AMU Surveillance System

The second stakeholder meeting on the development of the National Antimicrobial Use (AMU) Surveillance System for the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) was held on July 20, 2025, at the DGDA Conference Room in Mohakhali, Dhaka. The meeting brought together key representatives from DGDA, WHO, and JBRSOFT, underscoring the project’s strong national collaboration and active multi-sectoral engagement.

This session served as a follow-up to the inception meeting and focused on reviewing the progress made in system development. It provided a platform to demonstrate core functionalities, gather stakeholder feedback, and align on the next phases of implementation.

Key Highlights: Development Progress Demonstration

The JBRSOFT team conducted a live demonstration of the system prototype using a dedicated demo environment. Key components presented included a public page displaying general project information and updates; a company registration and login interface; an approval mechanism for company requests by DGDA admins; a module for configuring AMU metadata and antimicrobial product classifications; a structured product entry form for companies; and a data entry module for submitting AMU data in line with predefined metadata standards.

Stakeholder Insights and Feedback

During the meeting, stakeholders expressed appreciation for the visible progress and clarity in the system demonstration. They provided valuable feedback aimed at enhancing the platform’s functionality and user experience. Key suggestions included refining user roles and access levels to ensure better control and accountability, implementing automated data validation to minimize errors during data entry, and integrating a dynamic reporting dashboard for real-time analytics and decision-making. Additionally, participants emphasized the need for a streamlined submission and approval workflow to improve efficiency. The feedback gathered during the session will play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of development, ensuring the system is both practical and responsive to stakeholder needs.

In summary, the second stakeholder meeting demonstrated meaningful progress in building Bangladesh’s National AMU Surveillance System. The collaborative discussions and live demonstration reflected a shared commitment to delivering a reliable, user-friendly platform that will support regulatory oversight, evidence-based policymaking, and the national response to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Special thanks to DGDA for hosting and steering this important initiative, and to WHO and other stakeholders for their continued support and guidance throughout the development process.
